03 / Editing Philosophy

Editing is not just cutting.

A technically perfect cut does not automatically make a scene work. The editor has to understand what the story needs, what the performance is communicating and how the audience should experience the moment.

For Noufal, the real craft lies in knowing when to cut, why to cut and what the audience should feel.

The craft behind the cut.

Film editing sits at the intersection of story, performance, rhythm, emotion and sound. Noufal's approach to teaching starts with these foundations before moving into the technical tools used to execute them.

01

Story

Understanding what the story is trying to say before deciding how it should be cut.

02

Performance

Recognising the moments in an actor's performance that create truth, emotion and connection.

03

Rhythm

Controlling pace, timing and movement to give every scene its own cinematic rhythm.

04

Emotion

Shaping the emotional journey of a scene so that the audience experiences the intended feeling.

09 / NAAFE Method

Learn by doing. Learn by experiencing.

NAAFE Academy is built around a simple principle: cinema cannot be fully understood from theory alone. Students need to observe, practise, experience and create.

01
Observe
Watch films carefully. Understand how professionals construct scenes and stories.
02
Understand
Learn the creative principles behind editing, storytelling and cinematic language.
03
Practise
Work with footage, scenes and exercises to turn concepts into practical skills.
04
Experience
Get closer to the realities of professional film production and the editing process.
05
Create
Use your skills to create work that reflects your own creative voice and understanding.
10 / Mentorship

Industry experience, shared.

One of the central ideas behind NAAFE Academy is that students should learn from people who understand the realities of professional cinema.

Noufal brings years of practical experience into mentorship, allowing students to explore editing not just as a technical skill but as a creative discipline.

The objective is to help students develop the judgement needed to work with stories, performances and footage in a professional environment.

NAAFE Philosophy Don't just learn the software. Learn the craft.
A Message to Aspiring Editors
Don't just learn the software. Learn the craft.
